ChemTracker Application

Many universities worldwide have departments that, for various reasons, require bulk chemicals – for example, in lab experiments and product manufacturing.

Such products are hazardous to humans and the environment, and, in turn, the by-products are also hazardous.

Stanford University used Altio to create a chemical inventory and tracking system, which it both uses itself and re-licenses to other major universities in the United States.

The Chem-Tracker application tracks and stores information such as:

1. Quantities of chemical
2. Department, building and room location the chemical is stored in the university
3. The member of staff who is responsible for the chemical
4. Where the chemical came from
5. Proposed purpose of use of the chemical
6. Toxicity level of the chemical
7. Potential hazardous by-products

The application also allows the operator to perform inventory actions on the chemical, assign staff responsibility, change the status of the chemical and input logistics information regarding moving the chemical to a disposal site.
